Types of Maya Licenses
Autodesk provides multiple licensing models to accommodate different user requirements and organizational needs.
1. Single-User (Named User) License
Description:
- Assigned to a specific individual and linked to their Autodesk account.
Access:
- Requires signing in with a valid Autodesk ID.
Installation:
- Can be installed on up to three devices.
- Only the assigned user is permitted to use the software.
Best Suited For:
- Freelancers
- Individual professionals
- Small teams
2. Multi-User (Network) License (Legacy)
Description:
- A shared license managed using Autodesk Network License Manager (NLM).
Access:
- Users check out a license from the network when launching Maya.
Note:
- This license model is no longer available for new purchases after 2021.
- Replaced by the Named User licensing model.
Best Suited For:
- Large enterprises with shared workstations and centralized IT management.
3. Educational License
Description:
- Free license available to students and educators through the Autodesk Education Community.
Usage Restriction:
- Limited strictly to non-commercial, educational, and learning purposes.
Validity:
- Typically valid for one year.
- Renewable upon verification of educational eligibility.
4. Trial License
Description:
- A fully functional trial version available for 30 days.
Purpose:
- Enables evaluation of Maya before purchasing a subscription.
Conversion:
- Can be upgraded to a paid subscription without reinstalling the software.
License Activation & Management
Activation Process
- Download and install Maya from the Autodesk Account or Autodesk Access.
- Sign in using your Autodesk ID or assigned organizational credentials.
- Maya automatically detects and activates the assigned license type.
- For offline systems, manual activation can be completed through the Autodesk Licensing portal.
