Licensing

1. License Types

Perpetual License

  • One-time purchase with optional annual maintenance for updates and support.
  • The license remains valid remembering even if maintenance expires; however, software updates and technical support will no longer be available.

Subscription License

  • Time-based license available on a monthly or yearly basis.
  • Includes software updates and technical support for the duration of the subscription.

Floating (Network) License

  • Managed using Leica Common License Manager (CLM).
  • Enables multiple users to share a common pool of licenses over a network.
  • The number of simultaneous users is limited to the total number of available licenses.

Node-Locked License

  • Assigned to a single, specific workstation.
  • Cannot be shared or used across multiple systems.

2. License Activation

Online Activation

  • Requires an active internet connection.
  • Enter the activation key in Leica CLM to validate the license.
  • The license is automatically verified with Leica servers.

Offline Activation

  • Designed for systems without internet access.
  • Generate a license request file using CLM.
  • Upload the request file to the Leica portal, download the license file, and import it back into CLM.

License Borrowing (Field or Offline Use)

  • Available for floating/network licenses.
  • Licenses can be borrowed from CLM for a specified time period.
  • Borrowed licenses automatically return or expire once the system reconnects to the network.

3. License Management

Leica Common License Manager (CLM)

  • Centralized utility for license administration.
  • View active, available, and borrowed licenses.
  • Supports both standalone and network-based license configurations.

License Transfer

  • Node-locked licenses can be transferred to another workstation through Leica support.
  • The license must first be deactivated on the existing system.

Compliance

  • Ensure license usage aligns with the number of purchased seats.
  • Avoid unauthorized sharing, duplication, or usage beyond contractual terms.

4. Troubleshooting Licensing Issues

License Not Found

  • Verify that CLM is installed and running correctly.
  • Ensure the license file has been imported successfully.

Expired License

  • Renew the license through the Leica Customer Portal or an authorized reseller.
  • Update the license file within CLM after renewal.

Network License Errors

  • Confirm network connectivity to the license server.
  • Verify that the correct server configuration is set in CLM.

5. Support and Resources

  • Leica Customer Portal (MyWorld): Access license downloads, updates, and entitlement management.
  • Leica Technical Support: Contact for assistance with license activation, renewal, or transfers.
  • Leica Knowledge Base: Reference documentation and guides for CLM setup and troubleshooting.

6. Best Practices

  • Document license distribution and usage across the organization.
