Upgrade and Update
Understanding the difference between an update and an upgrade in Pix4Dmapper helps manage software versions efficiently.
What is an Update?
- An update is a minor version change within the same major release.
- Focuses on bug fixes, performance improvements, and small enhancements.
- Free for users with an active Support & Upgrade (S&U) license.

- Adding support for new drone or camera models.
- Improving processing speed (CPU/GPU optimizations).
- Minor UI tweaks and stability improvements.

What is an Upgrade?
- An upgrade is a major version change introducing significant new features.
- Requires an active S&U license; otherwise, the user remains on their current version.
- Typically occurs yearly or when Pix4D introduces major innovations in processing, AI, or cloud integration.
Examples of Upgrades in Pix4Dmapper
- Enhancements to the rayCloud editor.
- AI-based automatic GCP marking.
- Support for LiDAR + photogrammetry fusion.

Why It Matters
- Updates: Keep your current system stable, reliable, and compatible.
- Upgrades: Unlock new tools and expand capabilities.
- S&U License Expiry: Without an active license, both updates and upgrades are unavailable, locking you at your last version.
